VISUAL ARTS 9          (elective)
The students are expected to work out of a sketchbook focusing on four main disciplines: drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Students will explore a variety of projects and assignments that pertain to the elements and principles of design.
 
Topics of Focus:
  • Create artistic works using sensory inspiration, imagination, and inquiry.
  • Explore artistic possibilities and take creative risks.
  • Express meaning, intent, and emotion through visual art.
  • Develop and refine artistic skills and a variety of styles.
  • Demonstrate safe and responsible use of materials.
  • Recognize and evaluate design choices in artistic creations.
  • Reflect on the influences of a variety of contexts, for example; personal, social, cultural, environmental, and historical contexts on artistic works.
  • Demonstrate respect for self, others, and place.
  • Communicate ideas through art making.
  • Explore First People perspectives and principles of design elements.
  • Create artistic works that demonstrate personal, cultural, and historical contexts.
 
 
FINE ARTS FOR GRADES 10, 11, AND 12
 
Required courses for a Dogwood Diploma:
  • Any Fine Art OR Applied Skill 10, 11, or 12 course

ART STUDIO 11          (elective)  4 credits
 
This course includes:
  • A broad range of experiences in 2-D and 3-D visual arts.
  • Exploring a variety of art forms such as drawing, painting, pottery, photography, casting, design, digital imaging, and printmaking.
 
 
ART STUDIO 12          (elective) 4 credits
 
This course includes:
  • a broad range of experiences in 2-D and 3-D visual arts.
  • Exploring a variety of art forms such as drawing, painting, pottery, photography, casting, design, digital imaging, and printmaking.
  • Students are expected to work in a sketchbook outside of class to demonstrate their knowledge of techniques and medium.  The sketchbook is due at the end of the semester.
 
 
STUDIO ART 2-D 11          (elective)  4 credits
Pre-requisite: Art Studio 11
 
Studio Arts specialties may be in any of the following visual expression areas:
  • Drawing and painting
  • Ceramics and sculpture
  • Printmaking and graphic design

STUDIO ART 2-D 12        (elective)  4 credits
Pre-requisite: Art Studio 12
 
This course provides experienced Art's students opportunities to engage in a focused and in-depth study in a particular visual expression area. Studio Arts specialties may be in any of the following visual expression areas:
  • Drawing and painting
  • Ceramics and sculpture
  • Printmaking and graphic design
  • Fabric and fibre
