DANCE 9 – CHOREOGRAPHY
 
No prior dance experience needed to take this class.
 
This course will be in semester 1 and is the equivalent of a P.E. 9 credit.
 
Dance 9 Choreography introduces students into the culture of dance through building techniques, developing dance terminology and offering opportunities to perform. Students should expect a rigorous training atmosphere with high expectations as to dance etiquette. Appropriate dance wear is required. Emphasis will be placed on performance for this course.
 
 
 
 
DANCE 9 – PERFORMANCE
 
 
This course will be in semester 2 and the prerequisite is to have taken Dance 9 Choreography in semester 1.
 
Dancers will develop the skills and attitudes necessary to participate as a dance performer.  They will be given opportunities to perform various kinds of choreography and be expected to commit fully to the process of rehearsals and performances. Appropriate dance wear is required. 
 
 
 
 
DANCE 10 – DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY (DNC-10)
 
This course is in semester 1 and is the equivalent of a PE 10 credit.
 
Dance 10 Choreography introduces students into the world of dance choreography while applying all parts of the creative process (exploration, selection, refinement and reflection). Students will learn dance literacy and composition skills while discovering ways to explore their unique identity and sense of belonging. Through perseverance, resilience and risk taking, students in this course will develop growth as a choreographer. This course is meant to be a part of the linear process leading into the performing aspect of dance in semester 2. Appropriate dance wear is required.
 
 
DANCE 10 – DANCE TECHNIQUE & PERFORMANCE (DNP-10) 
 
This course is in semester 2.
 
Prerequisite:  Dance 10 Choreography
 
 
Dancers will continue to develop technique and performance skills from semester one, through specialization in particular dance style and through experience in a variety of dance genres. They will express a range of meanings, intents and emotions through combined dance elements and technical skills. The dancers will practice to think critically, exchange ideas and work cooperatively in preparing choreographed routines to perform. Appropriate dance wear is required.
 
 
DANCE 11 – FOUNDATIONS
 
Students will study the elements of movement and participate in the creation and composition of several dance works. They will develop an awareness of various factors involved in choreography such as the elements of music, feelings and emotions, and abstract ideas. Dancers will learn about the skills and attitudes necessary to participate as a dance choreographer. Appropriate dance wear is required. This course is meant to lead in to Dance Performance 11.
 
 
DANCE 11 – DANCE TECHNIQUE & PERFORMANCE (DNP-11) *this course runs in semester 2 and the prerequisite is Dance Foundations 11
 
In this course dancers will be required to participate in the performance or performances of a set piece of choreography. They will have been involved in the development of this creative work and will learn to refine and polish their performance skills to achieve a connection with their audience and further their artistic growth. Appropriate dance wear is required. 
 
 
DANCE 12 – FOUNDATIONS
 
Same as grade 11 but more intensive. 
 
 
DANCE 12 – TECHNIQUE & PERFORMANCE  *this course runs in semester 2 and the prerequisite is Dance Foundations 12
 
Expanding on the concepts of grade 11, this course explores a greater range of skills and movements.
