METAL 8

Students will be introduced to measurement, layout, soldering, forging, riveting, cutting, filing, and drilling. Using hese processes students will be building a few simple projects made of metal.

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION 9 – METALWORK

This introductory course is designed to teach students skills in the following areas:

  • Mig Welding
  • Oxyacetylene welding and brazing
  • wax casting
  • jewellery making
  • forging, sheet metal
  • aluminum casting
  • lathe work
  • grinding
  • drilling

Safety and safe shop practices are emphasized throughout the course.  This is a project oriented course with prescribed skill builder projects outlined by the teacher followed by projects chosen by the students.

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION 10 – METALWORK (TEM)

Prerequisite: Metalwork 9 preferred

This introductory course is designed to teach students skills in the following areas:

  • Mig Welding
  • Oxyacetylene welding and brazing
  • Lost wax casting, Lathe work
  • Jewellery making, Aluminum casting
  • Forging sheet metal

Safety and safe shop practices are emphasized throughout the course.  This is a project oriented course with prescribed skill builder projects outlined by the teacher followed by projects chosen by the students.

Students who have completed Metalwork 9 will work on more advanced projects than students taking the course for the first time.

METAL FABRICATION AND MACHINING 11 (MFM 11)

Prerequisite: Metal 10 preferred, but not required

This course will provide a challenge for students with interests in machining, fabrication and design. (e.g. Jewellry)

Course content includes:

  • systematic planning and procedures;
  • safe work habits;
  • skills and knowledge in the use of the lathe;
  • milling machine;
  • drill press;
  • grinders;
  • skills in casting aluminium and non-ferrous metals;
  • skills in oxy-acetylene brazing and welding;
  • care and maintenance of equipment;

Metal 11 is a project-oriented course. The teacher assignes skill building projects, and others are designed or chosen by the student. A course fee will be assessed.

METAL FABRICATION AND MACHINING 12 (MFM 12)

The course content is a continuation of Metal Fabrication 11. Areas like the milling machine, lathe work, welding, plasma cutting, and advanced lost wax casting are part of the program. Projects involving art metal and Jewellry may also be included. This is a project-oriented course.
